4th Grade - Mr. Halderman

Course Description

Welcome to Mr. Halderman's 4th Grade web page.

Fourth grade, the beginning of what is labeled the “upper grades,” is a time of tremendous adjustments. The transition to nightly homework, for example, requires students to be much more responsible and independent. This is also the first year that a child will experience a much larger class load of up to 33 students, which means less individual time with the teacher and more time spent in independent research and study activities. Reading expectations are also higher, as students shift from “learning to read” to “reading to learn,” which means much greater emphasis on comprehension and self-directed learning. My goal is that each student will excel to his or her greatest ability throughout the year. I will require each student to give me his or her best efforts. Be assured that students giving their best efforts will succeed in my class. Minimal student effort will have a substantial impact on grades. Students must learn that greater effort leads to greater success.

This is going to be a great year and I am looking forward to working with your precious children and getting to know you and them better throughout the year. Feel free to contact me via email at  [email protected] . You may also drop by anytime after school to meet me or discuss any concerns you might have.
