Every 12 August is International Youth Day, a UN observance that has been in existence since 2000. International Youth Day is dedicated to emphasising the importance and value of the world’s youth and to highlighting the roles they play in modern society.
Sometimes people think that young people can’t contribute significantly to society, but oftentimes the opposite is true. Youth are among the most active of all age groups, and although they can benefit from the wisdom of the aged, their energy, enthusiasm, creativity and willingness to learn is a huge boon to our world’s economies and cultures.
On International Youth Day, there will be major media campaigns on TV, radio, online, and through other venues to empower youth and encourage them to take more control over the issues that have the biggest impacts on their lives. There will also be numerous youth conferences, public performances, and other special events held for Youth Day in numerous countries.
